Tourist attractions in Da lat
Da lat is one of the most popular choices for a holiday vacation in Vietnam. Lately, due to the picturesque scenery, the charming atmosphere and all the historic sights, the City of Mountains and Flowers – as Vietnamese usually call it – has become a destination that foreign tourists cannot afford to miss on their journey to Vietnam.
Discovered by French during the time it was a part of Cochin China, Da lat had been endowed with many villas and boulevards of the architecture of the French colonial period, which gives off a charm that you cannot find anywhere else in Vietnam. Along with historical values, the capital of Lam Dong is also bestowed with natural beauty of its vast pine woods, the misty atmosphere and scenic fountains. Here are some attractions that you absolutely must go when visiting Da lat.
Xuan Huong Lake
Located at the center of Da lat, this constructed lake is the city’s pearl and pride. When visiting Da lat, you should choose a hotel that is close to Xuan Huong Lake. That way, you can take a walk with a special someone along the lake side in the early morning or at twilight, rent a tandem bike for a ride or get a swan boat to float in the middle of the lake. You will definitely enjoy the pleasantly cool atmosphere and the romance in the air.
This crescent-shaped lake stretches for about 7 km and passes by many attractions such as Da lat flower park, Cu hill, Yersin Park and Da lat market.
Da lat Night Market
Having a night shopping at Da lat Night Market is definitely worthwhile. You can have a look at many different products that Da lat offers such as artichokes, strawberries, artichoke tea, wool clothing, handmade souvenirs and especially mut, a kind of food preserve like jam made from strawberry, sweet potato and rose.
Besides, you should have a taste of hot grilled rice crepes (banh trang nuong) in the chilly atmosphere, or some other grilled food. They taste amazing in the chilly atmosphere and leave an unforgettable culinary experience.
Located in Lac Duong Ward, about 12 km away from Da lat’s center, LangBiang is a place you must go to understand while Da lat has got its name as the City of mountains. There, you can see for yourself the way of living of ethnic people, go for a hike to the top of the mountain, enjoy the mountainous atmosphere and picturesque view.
There are 2 ways for you to get to the top of the mountain: hitch a hike in a jeep or go on foot. If you want to take your time enjoying the view and having some exercise, go for a hike and feel your breath taken away, literally and figuratively. Either way, when you are on top with the mist circling around, you will feel like you are floating and down below, the land is full of patches of different colors: red, green, other shades of red and green.
Do not forget to buy a basket of golden everlasting as a souvenir or get tho cam – ethnic material for clothing. If you stay for the night, you can enjoy some ruou can (a very strong ethnic wine) and dance with ethnic people by the fire.
Truc Lam Temple – Tuyen Lam Lake
The reason why we mention these 2 together is that they are close to each other and together they make an irresistible beauty.
You can go to Truc Lam Temple by cable cars or riding motorcycle. Going by cable cars, you can see endless pine woods stretch out below. Riding, you will be surrounded by them. The temple is 5km away south from the city center. It is one of the biggest and most beautiful temples in Vietnam.
Visiting the temple, you can pay respect to Buddha and enjoy an exquisite beauty made up of the unique architecture of the temple and the beauty of nature. There, you can see many different kinds of flower: poppy, jade vine, hydrangea, fuchsia… all are very beautiful. And the gleam of the blue Tuyen Lam Lake from away between pines trees just makes everything perfect.
To complete the trip, rent a boat and get to the island in the middle of the lake for some nature exploration.
Bao Dai Palace
This Palace is designed by none other than Huynh Tan Phat, an infamous architect in Vietnam, along with another French architect. At this place, you can have a glimpse into the past life of Bao Dai, a king from the Nguyen era.
The Palace is up a hill on Trieu Viet Vuong street, surrounded by pine trees. It has a royally elegant look and a reminiscent atmosphere. The place is adorned with a geometry-shaped flower garden just like those in French palace and small scale gardens.
